Scheduling Your Surgery

Find your office below and contact your surgical coordinator to schedule your procedure, confirm your location, and review your medical clearance.

Who to contact

Your surgical coordinator depends on where you were seen and where your surgery is scheduled. Find the row below that matches your situation and call the direct line. Dr. Barrera will confirm which one applies to you at the end of your visit.

Anesthesia options

Most hand and upper extremity surgery is done with one of three approaches. Dr. Barrera and your anesthesia team will confirm which is right for your case.

  • Sedation with a regional nerve block. IV sedation plus a nerve block that numbs the arm. You are relaxed and pain-free but not fully asleep. An adult escort home is required.
  • General anesthesia. You are fully asleep with a breathing tube. Used for longer or more complex procedures. An adult escort home is required.
  • Local anesthesia only. Numbing medicine is injected at the surgical site. You are awake and comfortable, and no sedation is given. You can drive yourself home — no escort required.
Before surgery

Your coordinator will give you personalized instructions on which medications to stop and when to stop eating and drinking. Some blood thinners may be safe to continue — do not stop any prescribed medication without confirmation from your coordinator or Dr. Barrera.

Day of surgery and after

  • Arrival time is confirmed by the surgery center the day before. The time often changes — wait for the call before planning your morning.
  • Follow-up is typically 10 to 14 days after surgery. Your coordinator will book this at the time of scheduling.
  • Questions after surgery. Call your office during business hours. After hours, message through MyChart or call the office number — the answering service will reach the on-call surgeon for urgent concerns.
